In a major crackdown on criminals, Mirpur police on Monday busted the most-wanted inter-provincial gang of car and motorcycle lifters by arresting eight accused besides recovering five cars and 16 motorbikes worth over Rs three million from their possession, police said.

Disclosing this Senior Superintendent Police Mirpur Sardar Gulfraz Khan told a news conference in his office here on Monday that after the recent frequent incidents of car and motorcycle lifting in various parts of the district, a special police team led by DSP City Raja Irfan Salim with city inspector Raja Nadeem Arif and Khawaja Abdul Qayyum and Sub Inspector Zaffar Haider Shah was constituted to nab the accused.

He said that the police, on tips off, stormed the hideouts of the accused and arrested eight of them by recovering the lifted vehicles, including five motorcars and 16 motorbikes including those 10 stolen from the city and six others lifted from Dadayal sub division.

The district police chief said that the arrested accused, included alleged car lifters, Sajaad Rasheed s/o Abdul Resheed Qureshi of Khuiratta (Kotli district) and Babeel Mahfooz s/o Muhammad Mahfooz Mughal r/o Jandala Samahni. While the motorbike lifters, included Muhammad Safeer s/o Muhammad Afzal Jaat r/o Bandali Samani, Faisal Ishfaq s/o Ashfaq Ahmed Qureshi and Khurram Ahmed s/o Mushtaq Ahmed Ratayal residents of sector E-3, Mirpur, Muhammad Taj s/o Aslam Khan Patha r/o Dargaie, Muhammad Naveed s/o Muhammad Nazir of Phalia, Mandi Bahaud din and Pervez s/o Sooba Khan of Dadayal.
